The aptly named Brook Cottage in Surrey was subject to extensive flooding of the ground floor after the persistent rainfall in the autumn of 2000.
Metcalfe Briggs Surveyors were appointed under the householder insurance policy to represent the insured and to assess the damage and specify suitable clearance, drying and remedial works.
In the event, the complete ground floor of the property had to have new skirtings, complete redecoration, new carpets and complete refitting of the kitchen. In addition, pumps were fitted to the drainage system, through which much of the flood water had surcharged.
It was possible for the householders to remain in residence for the majority of the period and all matters were successfully resolved within the minimum possible period.
